Andre Ellington has had better games for the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals, but the former Berkeley High School and Clemson running back got more publicity for getting tackled Sunday than for anything else in his rookie season. That’s because Jacksonville Jaguars linebacker Jason Babin ended up with a handful of Ellington’s hair.
Video and pictures of Babin holding Ellington’s extra locks were all over the sports and news morning shows Monday.
Ellington’s Twitter account blew up with friends, fans and celebrities chiming in.
The bottom line was reported in Ellington’s initial tweet:
@Dre23_LilBit Hair is all good. Nothing serious. Look worse than it really was. S/o to the dread heads! Will get it stitch back in. Birdgang got the win
Later, he had a playful give and take with Fox Sports personality Erin Andrews:
@ErinAndrews: @Dre23_LilBit i feel you on the whole “weave” thing..glad you’re ok!
Ellington’s reply: @ErinAndrews no weave lol. It’s going to be my real hair that ill have sewed back together. I still have my dreads its jus shorter
Ellington rushed for only 3 yards on 8 carries in Arizona’s 27-14 victory. He also caught two passes for 10 yards. But Ellington has rushed for 391 yards (6.3 yards per carry), caught 26 passes and scored three touchdowns this season to help the 6-4 Cardinals get in playoff contention.
